Presentation

Pain and swelling of the ankle without history of trauma.

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female

A lytic expansile eccentric lesion in the distal end of the tibia with irregular markedly thin and destroyed cortex and a relatively broad zone of transition.

An expansile lesion in the distal tibia involving the articular surface of the tibiofibular joint and tibiotalar joint; it appears solid with an intermediate signal on T2 and hypointense signal on T1 and markedly hyperintense signal on proton density fat suppression. There is extensive local cortical destruction.

Case Discussion

The lesion was surgically proven as a giant cell tumor of bone.
