Giant cell tumor of the tendon sheath (finger)

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Presented with left ring finger palmar nodule for about the last 6 weeks. There is no history of injury. There is no associated pain/ tingling/skin discoloration.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female

There is a well-defined ovoid lesion in region of interest; measuring about 11 x 8 x 5 mm. There lesion abutts less than 1/2 of circumference of flexure tendon. It is on radial aspect of tendon at the level proximal phalanx shaft on palmer side. Lesion is seperate from bone / joints / nerve / vessel. Dynemic scan shows free flexure tendon movement from the lesion. Lesion is solid, homogeneously hypoechoic with posterior acoustic enhancement without calcification / cystic changes / compressibility. There are few peripheral flow signals in the lesion. There is no joint effusion/flexure tenosynovitis.

Case Discussion

A female presented with a little finger nodule on the palmar aspect. Ultrasound findings favored the possibility of giant cell tumor of tendon sheath. Surgical excision was done and histopathology revealed giant cell tumor of tendon sheath.
