Giant colonic diverticulum

Two days of uncharacteristic and progressive abdominal pain. No fever.

Patient Data

Age: 63
Gender: Female

CT scan demonstrates a large, round and smooth-walled mass filled with stool and oral contrast medial to the right colon and with a communication to its lumen. There are mild inflammatory changes in the surrounding area.

Numerous small diverticula are seen in the sigmoid colon.

Case Discussion

Giant colonic diverticula are rare. This case shows an inflammatory complication of a giant right colon diverticulum.
