Giant diaphragmatic mesothelial cyst

Incidental finding.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

On the right there is a huge sized fluid-containing cyst, in continuity with the mediastinum, surrounded by a thin wall.


Rx chest (post operative) 

Control after cyst removal via VATS.


Histological report.

Case Discussion

Mesothelial cysts also known as pleuropericardic or pericardial cysts. They consist of connective tissue and a layer of mesothelial cells and usually contain serous fluid. They are almost always attached to the pericardium, and rarely communicate with it.
