Giant scalp arteriovenous malformation

Presentation

A young male presented with pulsatile painless swelling within the right frontal region.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

Giant right frontal subcutaneous arteriovenous malformation (AVM). The nidus measured 47x23 mm and was fed by branches from the ipsilateral external carotid artery. There were also bilateral markedly dilated maxillary, facial and superficial temporal draining veins. No intracranial communication or extension.

Case Discussion

Extracranial scalp AVMs are an extremely rare condition. The etiology may be either congenital or post-traumatic.
