Glioblastoma: recurrence and transependymal spread

Presentation

A known patient with glioblastoma underwent surgical excision and now for follow up

Patient Data

Age: 41 years old
Gender: Female

Left temporal area of encephalomalacia corresponds to the operative site. There is local residual enhancing tumoral tissue which extends along the ependymal surface of the ipsilateral and contralateral lateral ventricles with involvement of the genu of corpus callosum.

MRS reveals elevated choline, reduced NAA and increased lipid and lactate confirming viable tumoral activity

Case Discussion

Recurrent glioblastoma which shows transependymal CSF spread at the ependymal surface of the lateral ventricles.
