This NECT brain shows reversed attenuation of the grey and white matter (the so-called reversal sign). The white matter is of higher density than the grey matter. No significant brain edema.
The etiology of hypoxic-ischemic injury in the adult is usually cardiac arrest with resultant brain hypoperfusion. Ischemia and infarction ensue.
