Diagnosis probable

Presentation

The patient came complaining of gradually increased right neck and shoulder pain and numbness as well as pulsatile tinnitus in the right ear.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

There is soft tissue mass lesion within the right jugular foramen which expands and erodes the adjacent petrous bone.

mri

There is avidly enhancing soft tissue mass lesion within right jugular foramen extending to the infra-temporal fossa and causing mass effect on the right internal carotid artery and jugular vein. The mass appears hypo-intense on T1 weighted images and hyper-intense with salt and pepper appearance on T2 weighted images without diffusion restriction.

Case Discussion

Jugular paraganglioma tumors are rare, slow-growing, hypervascular tumors that arise within the jugular foramen of the temporal bone and frequently involve the lower cranial nerves causing different syndromes depending on affected nearby structures.
