Vagal paraganglioma

Presentation

Voice change for the last 1 year. On examination, right vocal cord palsy.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

CT revealed a well-defined enhancing mass lesion in the right carotid space displacing and compressing the carotid vessels.

dsa

A well-enhancing mass with main feeders from the ascending pharyngeal and posterior auricular artery, consistent with a glomus vagale tumor was confirmed.

Case Discussion

Selective preoperative embolization of the main feeders was performed.

Postoperative histopathological evaluation revealed a tumor arising from the vagus nerve. Findings were consistent with a vagal paraganglioma (previously known as glomus vagale tumors).
