Gluteal haematoma

Case contributed by Dr Bruno Di Muzio

Fall from height about 6 days ago. Not septic.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Female

Ultrasound reveals a large collection in the subcutaneous tissue of the right gluteal region, encapsulated, with septa ("web appearance"), heterogeneous hypoechoic content, and absence of internal flow on Doppler. These are characteristic features of haematoma on ultrasound. Similar to that found in hemorrhagic ovarian cysts.
