The ultrasound images show an arciform echogenic structure with intense posterior acoustic shadowing located in the right iliac fossa. Normal appearance of the appendix.
The rest of the ultrasound exam was unremarkable.
Case Discussion
This ultrasound feature in a patient with a history of surgery is highly suggestive of a gossypiboma that was confirmed at surgery (surgical gauze).
