Presentation

Pelvic pain and palpable mass on physical exam. History of total abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy.

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

The uterus and ovaries are not seen at the anatomical location due to prior resection.

A 75×70 mm walled-off fluid collection with high density serpiginous material within it noted at the left side of the pelvis.

Typical appearance of gossypiboma (retained surgical sponge) in a patient with pelvic pain and palpable mass on physical exam and a history of total abdominal hysterotomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy.
