Nonspecific abdominal complaints. History of prior surgery.

CT finding of a low-density heterogeneous spongiform mass containing gas bubbles with an external enhancing wall. Note the thin metallic structure seen in the periphery of the mass and in a tri-dimensional perspective on volume rendering.

pathology

Gross pathology shows a retained sponge in a bowel segment. On the surgical sponge, the blue stripe corresponds to the metallic marker seen in the CT study.
