65 year old man with pain and swelling of the left elbow

Case Discussion

X-rays of the left elbow demonstrate a soft tissue swelling overlying the olecranon. It is somewhat hyperdense, without evidence of subjacent bony abnormality. 

Aspiration (under ultrasound guidance) demonstrated turbid fluid which as confirmed to contain abundant urate crystals consistent with gout
