On this single frog-leg lateral view of the pelvis, there is irregularity at the site of the avulsion of the left greater trochanter.

Case Discussion

Greater trochanter avulsion is relatively rare in children and young people and can be subtle, as in this case. It may be missed on a single frog-leg lateral view, and so, if that is your imaging protocol, and there are good symptoms, tenderness or persistent symptoms after rest, an AP radiograph may be helpful. If both a normal and there are continued symptoms, MRI is the gold-standard for imaging escalation.
