Green and O'Brien classification is used to classify thumb metacarpal fractures. It is of note that some types coincide with famous eponyms of thumb metacarpal fractures. The classification:
- type I: simple intra-articular (Bennett fracture)
- type II: comminuted intra-articular (Rolando fracture)

type III: extra-articular, epibasal (pseudo-Bennett fracture)
- type IIIA: transverse
- type IIIB: oblique
- type IV: epiphyseal fracture
