Presentation
Patient had an ultrasound of the abdomen ordered as a workup for severe thrombocytopenia.
Patient Data
There are 2 large hyperechoic liver lesions, with a hypoechoic peripheral rim and no increased vascularity.
There are two liver lesions showing incomplete peripheral nodular enhancement on the arterial phase, and filling progressively on the portal venous and delayed phase imaging. Findings are consistent with 2 large cavernous hemangiomas of the liver.
Tagged red cell scan
A nuclear medicine tagged RBC scan was performed. SPECT imaging of the liver demonstrates focal increased accumulation of tagged red blood cells corresponding to the two right hepatic lesions demonstrated on ultrasound and CT.
Accumulation of red blood cells in the spleen is physiological.
Imaging findings confirm the presence of two large cavernous hemangiomas. No further work up required.
Case Discussion
Incidental finding of 2 large cavernous hemangiomas in the liver. No further work up necessary.
