Presentation

Lower abdominal pain for 3 months.

Patient Data

Age: 12 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

Vaginal canal and uterus are grossly distended with multilayered fluid showing multi low level internal echoes representing hemorrhage of various ages. Findings are consistent with hematometrocolpos, suggesting imperforate hymen.

Both ovaries appear normal in size and echopattern.

Bilateral adnexa reveal no abnormality.

No free fluid is seen in Pouch of Douglas.

Post surgery ultrasound and imperforate hymen was confirmed.

Case Discussion

Ultrasound examination confirmed the clinically suspected hematometrocolpos and shows distended blood filled uterus and vagina. Imperforate hymen was confirmed.
