Presentation

Post fall, complaining of pain in right shoulder and chest wall.

Patient Data

Age: 63
Gender: Male
x-ray

The expiratory views show a visceral pleural line on the right with a moderate right pneumothorax.

No shift of the mediastinum. No left sided pneumothorax.

There are fractures of right 6th, 7th and 8th ribs.

Blunting of the right costophrenic angle and meniscus in the setting of trauma suggestive of a concurrent hemothorax.

A 20 French apical chest drain was inserted in the emergency department with 50ml of haemoserous fluid drained.
