Haemorrhagic transformation of MCA stroke

Patient was admitted with a history of motor deficit on the right for 2 days. CT scan performed on admission showed no significant changes. Evolved with lowered level of consciousness. MRI was requested.

Gender: Male

MRI brain

Extensive intraparenchymal haemorrhage in the left MCA territory associated with subdural haemorrhage and mass effect.

Case Discussion

Haemorrhagic transformation can be seen spontaneously and with increaed frequency following thrombolysis of an ischaemic infarct.
