Haglund syndrome

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Severe pain at back of heel, right greater than left.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

On the right, there is bony enlargement at the posterosuperior aspect of calcaneum consistent with Haglund deformity. Marked surrounding soft-tissue edema corresponding to insertional Achilles tendinosis and retrocalcaneal bursitis consistent with Haglund's syndrome. Faint Achilles insertion calcification is noted. Similar but less severe insertional tendinosis and calcification is seen on the left without a Haglund deformity.
