Presentation
Pain in right foot.
Patient Data
1. Two screws transfixed through the 1st metatarsophalangeal joint in this patient with history of Lapidus procedure without evidence of hardware failure or loosening.
2. Moderately severe hallux valgus with mild bunion deformity, and hammertoe deformities involving the 2nd and 3rd toes.
3. Moderate diffuse osteopenia.
4. The plantar arches are completely effaced.
5. Moderate Achilles heel spurring.
Case Discussion
Abnormal plantar flexion at the PIP in the 2nd and 3rd toes and abnormal dorsiflexion at the MTP joints are consistent with hammertoe deformity. Ill-fitting footwear is considered a causation for hammertoe deformity and hallux valgus.
