Pseudonodular appearance: Multiple hyperechoic nodular appearances are consist of fibrosis and coarse hypoechoic areas are consist of lymphocytic infiltrates.
Power Doppler and colour Doppler modes show that hypoechoic areas are more vascular than hyperechoic areas.
Characteristic ultrasound features are highly specific for Hashimoto's disease. Pseudonodular appearance is one of them and hyperechoic areas represents parenchymal fibrosis.
Awareness of this features may prevent patients from unnecessary FNAC.
