Hepatic hemangiomas

Case contributed by Bruno Di Muzio
Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

Incidental finding on liver ultrasound (not available for comparison).

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

CT Abdomen (selected images)

ct

CT confirmed two hypoattenuating hepatic masses:

  • a small and round one, located in hepatic segment VIII
  • another one, larger and with lobulated margins, located in segments V and VI.

Both have progressive enhancement through the contrasted phases, showing a typical globular and centripetal pattern that completed with homogenisation in the delayed phase.

Case Discussion

Most hemangiomas measure less than 4 cm in diameter. Giant hemangiomas have a variable definition with cutoffs ranging from 4 to 10 cm, depending on the author.

The diagnosis was presumed based on typical CT and ultrasound features.
