Presentation
Right upper quadrant pain.
Patient Data
Large complex cyst with daughter cysts along the anterior right hepatic lobe, which has volume loss. Left hepatic hypertrophy.
Right subdiaphragmatic calcifications. Right hemithorax volume loss, pleural thickening, and basilar bronchiectasis.
Case Discussion
Typical imaging features of active hydatid disease invovling the liver with multiple daughter cysts. Calcifications in the RUQ indicate the sequelae of prior cyst rupture. Right hepatic volume loss likely related to prior hydatid infection, which has resulted in hypertrophy of the left hepatic lobe (indicating a longer-standing process).
Sequelae of prior infection in the right lung was likely due to transdiaphragmatic spread/rupture of hydatid cyst, resulting in chronic pleural thickening, volume loss, and bronchiectasis.
