Presentation
Dull right upper quadrant pain for 2 years. Ultrasound exam performed 1 year ago reported hepatic cystic lesion and then started antihelmintic therapy for hydatid cyst.
Patient Data
A relatively heterogeneous hypo to isoechoic lesion in segment VII of the liver. The lesion has echogenic walls.
There is a well-defined thick-walled cystic mass lesion with mural calcification and internal crumpled membranes in segment VII.
Case Discussion
Hydatid cysts at later stages (inactive/degenerative) may not have really anechoic appearance on ultrasonography and can be challenging. MRI can be helpful in such cases when available.
