Hereditary haemochromatosis

Diabetes mellitus. Ferritin >2000 ng/ml. Brownish complexion.

Patient Data

Age: 35
Gender: Male

Complete signal loss of the liver parenchyma in all sequences due to iron overlaod. The spleen is not affected (as would be the case in non-hereditary haemosiderosis)

Case Discussion

HHT patients with ferritin levels >1000 ng/ml are at an increased risk of developing liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma.
