Gross proliferation of irregular periarticular bone surrounding the ankle joint.
It is contiguous with the normal osseous structures, rather than purely soft tissue centered.
Case Discussion
Heterotopic ossification has a tendency to form at major synovial joints. This can result in a decline in range of motion of the affected joints.
It typically occurs in those with neurological injuries.
