Hidradenitis suppurativa (axilla)

Presentation

Right axillary swelling with recurrent local discharge for the last few months.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

There is a superficial subcutaneous tract like collection in the right axilla. The collection abuts the deeper surface of the skin and reaches up the skin. It is hypoechoic with mobile internal echoes. There are a few linear echogenic structures that represent broken-off hair. Approximate size is 50 x 11 x 5 mm. The perilesional fat is inflamed with hypervascularity. There is no axillary lymphadenopathy. The axillary vessels were patent.

Case Discussion

A female presented with sinus in the right axilla for the last few months. Ultrasound shows a superficial collection with hair follicles. A probable diagnosis of the pilonidal sinus was made on ultrasound.

The patent underwent surgical excision. Histopathology of the lesion was hidradenitis suppurativa.
