Presentation
Swelling of the left thigh after resection and treatment of the mass 6 months ago
Patient Data
A large ill-defined irregular enhancing solid necrotic mass in the anterior compartment of the left thigh infiltrated the quadriceps femoris vastus intermedius, vastus medialis, and rectus femoris muscles
Skin and subcutaneous thickening
No bone invasion.
Microscopy:
Sections show fragments of neoformed tissue, composed of sheets of atypical spindled and some epithelioid cells with pleomorphic nuclei, some giant cells, many mitotic figures including atypical forms and extensive foci of necrosis. Some foci are hypocellular with few myxoid appearances.
Diagnosis:
Malignant undifferentiated neoplasm with spindle/epithelioid cell features consistent with high-grade sarcoma.
