MVA.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Dislocation of the right femoral head, postioned lateral and slightly superior relative to the acetabulum. No associated fracture. Pelvis is intact. SI joints and pubic symphysis are normally aligned. The left hip in normal.

Case Discussion

The trauma CT confirmed posterior dislocation of the right hip, which was reduced in the emergency department.

Posterior hip dislocations are far more common than anterior dislocations and are usually the result of MVAs. Most are associated with acetabular fractures, unlike this case.
