Hip sepsis and pyomyositis

Severe right hip pain with limitation of movement. Fever.

Patient Data

Age: 6 years
Gender: Male
Race: Caucasian

Inability to straighten right leg because of pain.

The right hip is held in a flexed and abducted position because of pain. No focal bone abnormality detected.


Large right sided hip effusion with accompanying synovial thickening.


Extensive right sided hip sepsis with widespread surrounding muscle oedema and intramuscular collection.
