Hippocampal sulcus remnant cyst

Case contributed by Dr Anthony Nuñez

Brain MRI for survilliance of previous stroke.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male

There are few billateral small cystic lesions that follow CSF on all sequences at the hippocampus.

Also there is a chronic lacunar infarction at the left basal ganglia (putamen).

Case Discussion

Sulcal remnant cysts are residual cysts resulting from lack of obliteration of the hippocampal sulcus and are, therefore, most commonly localized laterally, at the apex of the hippocampal fold, between the cornu ammonis and dentate gyrus 1.
