Hirschsprung disease - short segment

Constipation for a long time

Patient Data

Age: 1 year
Gender: Male
Fluoroscopy

Abnormal dilatation of transverse and descending colons are noted in the reference image.

There is a short segment of circumferential smooth narrowing of the proximal rectum with the sigmoid colon disproportionately distended in comparison to the rectum (rectosigmoid ratio < 1).

Case Discussion

The imaging findings are suggestive of a short segment Hirschsprung disease. For confirmation full thickness rectal biopsy is required.
