Swelling of the left gluteal region

Patient Data

Age: 4 months
Gender: Male

Left gluteal region

Heterogeneous hypoechoic lobulated soft tissue mass arising from the gluteus maximus muscle.

Pelvis

This soft tissue mass arises from the gluteus maximus muscle and extends to the adjacent subcutaneous fat. It demonstrates an isosignal on T1 compared to muscle, high signal on T2 with restricted diffusion on DWI/ADC, and heterogeneous enhancement on postcontrast sequences.

pathology

Peroperative view and gross pathology of the tumoral mass.

Case Discussion

Ultrasound and MRI features are most consistent with malignant tumor arising from the gluteus maximus muscle. 

The patient went on to have complete surgical resection of the tumor. The histopathological exam with immunochemistry was in favor of histiocytic sarcoma.
