Presentation
Swelling of the left gluteal region
Patient Data
Heterogeneous hypoechoic lobulated soft tissue mass arising from the gluteus maximus muscle.
This soft tissue mass arises from the gluteus maximus muscle and extends to the adjacent subcutaneous fat. It demonstrates an isosignal on T1 compared to muscle, high signal on T2 with restricted diffusion on DWI/ADC, and heterogeneous enhancement on postcontrast sequences.
Peroperative view and gross pathology of the tumoral mass.
Case Discussion
Ultrasound and MRI features are most consistent with malignant tumor arising from the gluteus maximus muscle.
The patient went on to have complete surgical resection of the tumor. The histopathological exam with immunochemistry was in favor of histiocytic sarcoma.
