Positioning for elbow series radiographs in a trauma patient

Case Discussion

These images depict plain film radiographic positioning for when patients are unable to adhere to standard positioning techniques for the elbow (i.e. trauma setting). Radiolucent positioning sponges are recommended to immobilize patients.

Note: The figures depict suggestions of alternative positioning techniques with emphasis on proper centering point. Collimation sizes demonstrated in these figures account for distortion when the images were taken and are for illustration purposes only. ALARA and proper collimation technique should still be adhered to when imaging the elbow.
