A thick band of abnormal high signal intensity in the PDFS and FFE images is seen traversing the posterior horn of the medial meniscus in the horizontal plane, reaching the meniscal root medially and the menisco-capsular attachment laterally as well as interrupting the superior surface of the meniscus.
The case shows the typical appearance of the most common meniscal tear pattern, the horizontal tear with abnormal signal band lies parallel to the tibial plateau and separates the meniscus into upper and lower parts.
