Right flank pain. Ultrasound was unremarkable, however a horseshoe anomaly detected.

IVU findings:
- both kidneys appear rotated with bilateral pelvicalyceal systems seen more end-on
- both lower poles are directed medially towards the spine
- normally functioning bilateral kidneys
Case Discussion
Case of horseshoe kidney
Most common renal fusion anomaly.
More common in males.
IVU is a useful method for diagnosis, however the isthmus may not be well visualized ; a diagnosis can be made on the basis of secondary sign.
CT is more definitive and the level of fusion can also be determined.
