Humeral shaft fracture

Presentation

Child rolled in her bed and was prevented from falling down by someone gasping her upper limb. This was followed by excessive crying and right distal arm region swelling within few hours.

Patient Data

Age: 3 months
Gender: Female
x-ray

There is a linear lucency in the distal meta-diaphyseal region of the right humerus in lateral view only. It runs posterior to anterior from proximal to distal in part of the bone. 

ultrasound

The long axis of the distal meta-diaphyseal region of right humerus shows a breach in the cortex. There is a wide gap at the fracture site in short axis view.

Case Discussion

An infant presented with the history of trivial trauma to the upper limb. Radiograph shows possible undisplaced fracture involving the distal meta-diaphyseal region of the right humerus. Ultrasound shows displaced fracture.
