Presentation
Pelvic pain. No history of previous surgery. The pelvic ultrasound was unremarkable according to her gynecologist.
Patient Data
There is a well-defined ovoid mass (4.6x4x3.4 cm) of intervesicouterine location. It displays an is signal to the myometrium on T1WI with foci of low signal (calcifications), inhomogeneous high signal in T2WI with serpiginous internal membranes of high signal. The postcontrast sequences show mild peripheral enhancement.
Both ovaries are small in size (atrophied) with minimal effusion in the Douglas pouch.
The ultrasound exam (done after the MRI) demonstrates a partially calcified mass of intervesicouterine location as well as a calcified hydatid cyst in the segment IVa.
Case Discussion
MRI features of a partially calcified hydatid cyst of intervesicouterine location. The presence of a calcified hydatid cyst of the liver supports the likelihood of the diagnosis.
