MRI findings:
- a large cyst (measuring 8 cm x 7 cm approx.) noted in the right lobe of liver involving segments VII and VI
- multiple cysts of varying sizes noted within the large cyst
- the cystic structures are seen to appear hyperintense on T2W sequences and hypointense on T1W sequences with no post contrast enhancement
- there is evidence of compression of the adjacent intrahepatic biliary radicals

Case Discussion
Case of hepatic hydatid cyst
- based on morphology this would be classified as type IIb (see article on hydatid disease)
- infection occurs by ingesting food contaminated with Echinococcus eggs
- liver is the most commonly affected organ; lung is the second most common organ affected
- in this case the cyst was surgically resected and patient recovered well post operatively with resolution of jaundice
