Hydatid cyst of the liver

Case contributed by Frank Gaillard
Diagnosis almost certain
ct

Cystic lesion in liver with tiny foci of calcification.

Case Discussion

Aspiration of cyst contents show:
No malignant cells are identified. There is abundant bile pigment and necrotic material. No scolices are present. These findings are not specific but would be consistent with contents of a hydatid cyst with degerative changes, and without viable organisms.
