Hydrocele (scrotal scintigraphy)

Presentation

Left scrotal pain. History of testicular trauma.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male
Nuclear medicine

Following IV administration of 21 mCi technetium 99m pertechnetate, an angiographic (not shown) and blood pool study of the testes were performed.

Due to a large amount of fluid within the left testis, there is marked attenuation of the activity within the entire scrotum. Hence, blood flow and testicular viability cannot be assessed.

Case Discussion

A large hydrocele was present on an ultrasound performed earlier that day.
