There is significant fluid distension of the vagina and cervical canal. The endometrial cavity is mildly dilated. The remainder of the abdomen appears normal. Appearances are most in keeping with hydrometrocolpos.

Case Discussion

Hydrocolpos is depicted by a dilated fluid-filled vaginal cavity. When it is associated with distention of the uterine cavity, the term hydrometrocolpos should then be used. It may present in infancy with a lower abdominal mass, or be delayed till menarchy, as in our case.
