Presentation

Known chronic kidney disease, presenting with non-specific abdominal pain and dysuria

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound

The right kidney measures 10.5 cm and shows mild to moderate chronic hydronephrotic changes, parenchymal thinning is noted measures about 5 mm at average.

The left kidney measures 9.3 cm length and shows also moderate to severe chronic hydronephrotic changes with marked cortical thinning.

The bladder shows normal shape and wall thickness, no defects are noted, the pre void capacity measures 348 mL, no postvoid residual urine was noted.

Case Discussion

This is 50 year old lady renal stone-former, known to have long standing hydronephrosis. Imaging depicts cortical thinning of both kidneys which usually precedes atrophy in the setting of chronic renal disease.
