Presentation

Shortness of breath post pleural aspiration

Patient Data

Age: 80 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Moderate left hydropneumothorax following pleural aspiration. No contralateral cardiomediastinal shift, unlikely to be under tension. Hyperinflated right lung (flattened hemidiaphragm), emphysema versus chronic asthma.

Case Discussion

Iatrogenic simple (i.e. not under tension) hydropneumothorax post drainage of large left pleural effusion.
