Presentation

Projectile vomiting.

Patient Data

Age: 4 weeks
Gender: Male
ultrasound

Marked thickening of pyloric muscles with elongated pyloric canal, muscle wall thickness is 5 mm, pyloric canal length is 18 mm, and transverse diameter is 13 mm. No fluid was noted passing through the pyloric canal during the examination. Features are those of hypertrophic pyloric stenosis.

Case Discussion

The most accurate measurement to diagnose hypertrophic pyloric stenosis is the diame­ter of a single muscular wall (hypoechoic component), which should be >3 mm.
