CT demonstrates marked bilateral hypoattenuation of the basal ganglia (caudate and lentiform neuclei). On this single image the cortex and grey-white matter differentiation seems preserved.
Case Discussion
This case demonstrates a pattern consistent with profound acute hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) in a child (e.g. drowning). The cause of HIE in this individual is unfortunately no recorded.
