Presentation

Cardiac arrest following a surgical procedure where cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed for 10 minutes.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Female

DWI images show symmetric hyperintensity of the basal ganglia, thalamus, cortex of occipital and parietal lobes, and also the primary motor cortex of the posterior frontal lobes with corresponding reduced values on ADC maps indicating restricted diffusion which is consistent with hypoxic ischemic brain injury in the hyperacute phase.

Case Discussion

This patient presented with cardiac arrest following a surgical procedure and cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed for 10 minutes. MRI findings are consistent with hypoxic ischemic brain injury in the hyperacute phase.
